With over 20 years experience as an electrical engineer and project manager in the consumer goods, electronics, automotive, and pharmaceutical industries, Fred Cowen was the Chief Electrical Engineer at Aecometric Corporation, a global supplier of industrial combustion equipment, for the past 9 years. After working on over 160 burner designs at Aecometric anywhere from the concept to commissioning stages in the cement, gypsum, steel, oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, and food industries, with customers including AECOM, Amec Foster Wheeler, Argos, Black & Veatch, Cameco, EIL, Encana, Fabtech, FLSmidth, Gebr.Pfeiffer, Georgia Pacific, Glencore, Hamworthy, Hatch, Heidelberg, HPCL, ICM, IOCL, LafargeHolcim, Lukoil, Mittal Steel, Motor Oil Hellas, MRPL, Nexen, PetroChina, SNC Lavalin, Suncor, Sunway, Technip, ThyssenKrupp, US Steel, USG, Vale, located in over 20 countries, FCowen Engineering was born.

Fred Cowen is the President and Chief Engineer at FCowen Engineering Inc.
He obtained a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering From the University of Toronto in 1996. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the Province of Ontario since 2003, holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and is a Functional Safety Engineer (FS Eng) certified by TUV in Germany.
At the University of Toronto, Fred designed a microcontroller for attitude control for Canada’s 1st telescope satellite.
After working for Celestica, a circuit board electronics OEM, Fred traveled to Japan to work as a Controls and Information Systems Manager at Procter & Gamble. He completed a project for a global standard production line of feminine care products in Kobe, Japan and Guangzhou, China. During his work, he studied Japanese and continuous improvement concepts.
After working for an automotive and pharmaceutical company as program manager, Fred became the Electrical Engineering Coordinator at Aecometric Corporation. He was promoted to Chief Electrical Engineer, where he worked over 9 years delivering over 160 burner projects from the concept to the commissioning phases, to customers all over the world in the cement, petrochemical, oil and gas, biomass, steel, gypsum, mining, and food industries. At Aecometric, Fred developed the first low-NOx dual and multi-fuel lead-lag cross-limited combustion control system, helped get regulator CSA approval for an ignition transformer and developed, built, and commissioned the first SIL-2 Burner Management System for a hot gas generator for the mining industry.
Fred has successfully helped commission over 50 burners around the world in many industries. Based on customer feedback, Fred is easy to work with, responsive, and provides solutions to meet customer needs.
Fred had 2 papers published in Sulphur Magazine and at the SOGAT conference in the UAE about Optimal Development of High Intensity Burner Packages for Mega Sulphur Projects.
